Who we are
Father and son. Rolf is the engineer. Grant is the software developer. Neither of us is a founder, CEO (chief executive officer), or anything that ends in a five-letter title. We are the people who do the work.
Rolf. Engineer.
I run a farm in Chatsworth, a small practice in north Georgia, and a fleet of Hermes agents that I use for both. The count changes every month, because the work changes.
I started writing about this work on Substack in 2014. The older posts are about a US Navy submarine, a startup that did not work, and a small IT consulting firm. The newer posts are about Hermes agents.
Title: engineer. That is what I call myself. The other degrees and the MBA (master of business administration) and the rest are real, but they are not what I lead with.
Grant. Software developer.
Grant is in Chattanooga. He does the software side of the practice. He sets up the agent harness, writes the integrations, installs the MCPs (Model Context Protocol adapters), and trains the agent on the specific loop the business needs automated.
If you want the engineer who writes the agent code to be in the room, that is Grant.
What we will not do
- Replace your staff. The agent takes the loops. Your people do the work that needs judgment.
- Build a custom model. Hermes is open-source. We use what is already there.
- Take a job where the data cannot stay on hardware you own. Local-first is the reason to bother with an agent. If you cannot run it locally, the SaaS (software as a service) vendors are a better fit.
- Be your AI (artificial intelligence) department. We do basic consulting. If you want an ongoing outsourced AI function, we will say so on the first call.
